The Female Feileadh Mor

Men were not the only Scots to wear the feileadh mor. While the female version (called an earasaids) was equally as functional as the male version, women added an element of style to the wearing of this garment.

The female feileadh mor was worn over a tunic and a gown adding an extra layer of warmth.

For women, the pleating is worn completely in the back unlike the men who extend the cloth to cover the front of the body.

The hem line of the female feileadh mor rests at mid-calf whereas the male version falls at the knee.

If not needed for warmth or protection from rain, women found ways to stylishly drape the feileadh mor into a fashion statement.
